Homeland Insecurity S6 E2 “The Man in the Basement”
Guess who’s back?!? MAX! What has he been up to??? We talk about Carrie using and abusing Max’s services and the increasingly complicated case around Sekou’s rights to free speech. We also discuss Mean Girls Dar and Saul before puzzling over that final scene with sweet Quinn and Carrie. (Why? Why!!!??! Why!?!?!?!?!?!?!)

Ladies,
Great to have you back with the S6 podcast. Love your work! You mentioned another show work potentially sink your teeth into? I came across one that is kind of going unsung but is pretty fantastic. It’s a show called “Quarry” on Cinemax. It’s about a decorated VietNam vet circa 1972 that comes back to Memphis, TN. He’s a decent guy with a reasonably decent wife and background, and just wants to get back to normal (although not surprisingly suffering from some moderate PTDS). But as a war hero, and gaining a little notariety, he simply can’t get a job because of the anti-war sentiment of the time. He’s a decent guy with a reasonably decent wife and background, and just wants to get back to normal (although not surprisingly suffering from some moderate PTDS). So he very reluctantly gets recruited by the area mafia to do kill jobs for them. It’s got a great cast…even greater production values…Think “Reservoir Dogs” meets the second season of Fargo. The set design, art direction, and props are SPOT ON. I was a little kid in the 70s and I can vouch for its accuracy. The show has critical acclaim, but is simply not on the broader radar I guess…but trust me, it’s damn good—dramatic, darkly funny, violent, has some decent “adult” scenes…it’s the whole magilla. Check it out, don’t think you’ll be disappointed. And I’d love to get your awesome perspectives episode by episode.
